Mexico City’s Mega-Library

The Biblioteca Vasconcelos is Mexico City’s mega-library, located in the Buenavista area. Housed in a massive modern building surrounded by a botanical garden to sound-proof and isolate it from the city’s hustle and bustle, the library occupies 38,000 square meters and is 28 meters high with masses of metal bookshelves suspended from the top and slightly mismatched, divided into three sections. It was inaugurated in 2006 and, a decade later, continues to be a place where thousands of people read and consult books every day or participate in the diverse activities offered.
