Photo Walk Nº15 – Feria de las Culturas Amigas 2016
Our 15th Photo Walk was slightly different from the others. We didn’t explore Mexico City but rather the whole world! The 2016 edition of the Feria de las Culturas Amigas was taking place in the Zócalo so we decided to go and photograph some of the stands representing 93 countries.
We met at the Cathedral and then went up to a café overlooking the Zócalo to get our photos of the setting. The Fair was very well organized this year in a large circular structure taking up most of the large square. Over coffee or juice, we learnt that this fair began as a gesture of solidarity and to reactivate tourism in Mexico City in May 2009 when the Swine Flu crisis had led to the city being shut down and subsequently avoided by many tourists. Before going down to the Feria, we also talked about the variety of images we could look for and some of the settings we would need on our cameras.
At 11 am the Fair was opened and we decided that we would go around the stands at our own pace in twos or threes, meeting up again towards the end of the walk to share our thoughts and experiences. It turned out to be an excellent opportunity to get many interesting photos of people, food, stands and visitors as well as details characterizing each of the different cultures. And we also got to try lots of food from all around the world.
