Migration of the monarch butterflies
Monarch butterflies congregate by a small stream at “El Rosario Butterfly Sanctuary” near Angangueo, Michoacán
November sees the arrival of millions of monarch butterflies in the mountains of central Mexico as they migrate south to escape the harsh winter of Canada and the United States. This is one of nature’s most stunning spectacles and is well worth seeing at least once in a lifetime. There are several Monarch Butterfly Sanctuaries in Michoacán and the Estado de México where you can see masses of these black and orange butterflies wintering high up in the oyamel forests in the mountains of Central Mexico.
