Photo Walk Nº47 – Feria Internacional de las Culturas Amigas 2017 (World Fair)
A three-hour round-the-world photography trip visiting the Feria Internacional de Culturas Amigas 2017
For our 47th Photo Walk, we went on a Round-the-World trip for three hours photographing the different stands at the Feria Internacional de las Culturas Amigas 2017, held in the Centro Histórico. Over 90 countries were represented and this year the main stands were in the Zócalo while the food section was organized a few blocks away in Plaza de Santo Domingo.
As the Fair didn’t open until 11 am, we first went to the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso to see the Photography Exhibition “Candida Höfer en México”, one of the events being held during the international fair. The German photographer, well-known for her large format pictures of architecture, had taken some stunning shots of the interior spaces of some of Mexico’s emblematic buildings such as the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City.
After that, we made our way to Plaza de Santo Domingo where we wandered around the Gastronomy Section, taking photos of the people and food at the large number of stands there. Between us, we also tasted a large variety of the food and drinks on offer, sampling tasty tidbits from most of the continents. The next stage was to check out the crafts and traditions at the stands in the main section, located in the Zócalo. We watched a Thai massage, a Turkish artist turning out works of art and Middle Eastern people doing henna tattoos, while traditional music was being played all around. For some, there wasn’t enough time and they will be returning over the next few days. The Fair continues until 4th June.
