Photo Walk Nº57 – Pilgrims and dancers at the Basilica de Guadalupe

An amazing time photographing dancers from all over Mexico

The Day of the Virgen de Guadalupe is coming up on the 12th December and around this date millions of pilgrims from all over Mexico come to honor the Virgen and thank her for her favours over the last year. Many come to perform traditional dances from their regions.

This year we are doing two special photo walks to the Basilica de Guadalupe in the north of Mexico City on Sunday mornings to photograph this spectacular event. The first one was yesterday when we met and photographed people from many different states and their dances, incuding the Danza de los Quetzales from Puebla, the Danza de los Santiagos from Veracruz, the dance of the Chichimeca Indians from Guanajuato and the Danza de las Pastoras from Puebla.

We visited the main sites, went into both Basilicas, climbed to the top of the hill and joined in the colourful atmosphere full of pilgrims with their statues of the Virgen de Guadalupe.
